I am picking up a Panther Electro Steer this weekend and I was wondering if anyone had any feedback about this product? How well does it work? Is it worth the money?

It sure looks like a cheap piece of equipment. If I had to guess the motor looks like it is from the winsheild wipers of a car..........I bought one, so far so good.

(Hopefully I am wrong in m y assessment!)

I've used one for over two years and have been very pleased with it. It is indeed, a windshield wiper motor, but you'll be surprised and the performance - it moves my 9.9 Merc from pin to pin surprisingly fast. Overall, the construction is quite good; however, I did have trouble with the actuator switch. It is a cheap plastic switch that is susceptible to failure. The electrical cable is anchored into the switch with a dab of sealant of some sort. A good tug on the switch (e.g., you accidently step on the cable..) and it can break loose, and in my case, a couple of the internal solder connections as well. I cut the whole thing off and replaced it with a small aluminum box and heavy duty momentary contact toggle switch.

Now, if someone would just make an NMEA-GPS interface device for the ElectroSteer, life would be perfect!

We have one on a 15 hp Merc and it works great. Well worth the money.

Is the "remote" control a wireless device, or corded? How much does it cost??? Thanks, Bill

They are corded. Not sure of exact price..not much over $200.

If its made from a windshield wiper motor thats not neccessarily a bad thing. Most wiper motors are pretty tough. They get way more use on a car than they would ever see on a boat and work fine.

I've got a Remote-Troll, very similar in concept. I believe this uses a power window motor, of course I don't know it could be a wiper motor, anyway, I've had this sucker for 15 years, its been on seven different boats, with three different kickers and it still works fantastic..I think they go for about $350 bucks. Wouldn't be without it!
