Hi guys. I would really like some help in choosing a deep cycle battery. I need one that will stand up to a full days use of powering a 36 pound thrust trolling motor. I have a 15 foot Sportspal canoe and usually use it in one of the rivers around home. There is usualy some current to deal with when running up a riffle to get to the walleye holes upstream. I am a diabetic and have recently had my left leg amputated, half of my right foor amputed, and several fingers on my right hand amputated. I am also a dialysis patient. All of this combines to make it very difficult to paddle for long distances, so I would like a battery that will really hold a charge and go the distance. Any help you guys can give me will be appreciated, thanks, Gimpy Geezer

i think you would be beter off having 2 batteries. possibly at least size 27 or better.

If it's an option, try to go to a 24V system.

But it sounds like you may already have the electric motor so that may not be an option, in which case go for the largest deep-cycle you can find which will not overwhelm your canoe. A size 27 or size 29 is much preferable, from Walmart, Sears, or any large retailer who will stand behing their name. The particular brand isn't overly important as most of the brand names are made by just 2 manufacturers. (Brands with "fishing" names (Minn-Kota, Cabelas, etc.) are often overpriced versions of identical chain-store products.)

Oh, and get a charger which is specifically designed for deep-cycle batteries --- the consumer-automotive types will cause premature aging of deep-cycle batteries.

Walk softly and carry a big fish.
