View Full Version : X-85 Owners (portable mode)
Looking for X-85 owners that run it in the portable mode.
We will be in Canada next Friday (Weese Lake)and was wondering if there are any suggestion on settings that conserve power? Also, what kind of D-Cell Batteries do you think are the longest lasting?
Thanks in Advance,

I use my X85 in portable mode in Canada as well. I don't however use the D-cell attatchment, I use a gel cell that fits into the battery box. I can get qabout 24 hours of run time on this setup.Personally I don't know if I would want to use that set up with D-Cells, I think it would be a battery hog.

I consider that I use my X-85 in portable mode since I carry it into different lakes and use it in different boats (outfitters).
However, I built a wooden box to carry the X-85 along with a 35 amp hour gel battery. I have a Johnny Ray bolted to the lid of the box to connect the X-85 when in use. This set up allows me to go into a back lake and fish for a week without any recharging required. Lowrance technicians informed me that maximum power usage of the X-85 was 700 milliamps per hour when the backlight was on (less than half that when light was not on). My 35 amp hour gel battery provides 35000 milliamps or five full 10 hour days (with the backlight on) and easily 7 days without the light on. Complete unit weighs 38 lbs (most of which is the battery). Jay

I have an optima portable that I have brought into Canada the last couple years. I use Duracell D-cells, and both years they have lasted me until the last couple of hours on the last day of the trip. I usually take two sets, but have not had to use the second set. The unit on is from 6 am until 9 pm for seven days straight.
Use the gell cell set up. Run it without the light on as much as possible. No settings to crack down the power out put. Good idea on the box and gell cell. Lowrance makes their own portable power pack, that will except at gell cell. I have gotten 3 days on my X-85 and 5 days on my X-65...

I just returned from a fly-in to Ontario and used my X75 all week with no problem. I used the new Duracells with M3 (or something like that) technology. They are supposed to last longer than the old style...they do cost more, however. I ran the finder about 10 hours a day for 6 1/2 days and had plenty of juice when the week was over. Good luck and good fishing. Ours was great.
