Getting ready to go north Mon. with wife. We were going to Mille Lacs, but may go to Brainard Lakes. We will be camping with a tent. Any hints on any of the Brainard lakes,or camp grounds around Mille Lacs or Brainard. hanks in advance for info.
P. S. Also, whats the best way to get around, through, over or whatever the Twin Cities? I will be coming up 35, and heading to Mille Lacs or Brainard.

Do not know the Brainard area well enough to comment, but bring your airconditioned tent. We are in a 90+ degree heat wave with no real end in sight. Cut the air with a knife!
Best way to circumvent the Cities is to fly. Other then that, the most direct route during OFF PEAK hours is to take 35W north to the 494 loop West and follow that around the south side of the Cities where it turns to 494 North. Take that to 94 West. Take 94 to the Rogers Exit (HY 101/169) and take 169 north through Elk River to Mille Lacs. From there to Brainard is only one way and your map is your best shot.

If you decide to go to Brainerd, take 35w, to 494 west, to 94 west, to clearwater/clear lake exit (hwy 24?) north, to 10 west, to 371 north. If you are going to lakes north of Brainerd, take 371 to Baxter. It will save you from driving through town and is 4 lanes. Try traveling off peak times. The traffic out of the Twin Cities on Friday afternoon can be heavy.
