Got a call today from Lund saying my boat had arrived but it had been damaged during transport.I went to the boat dealership to look at it & there was a 4" scrape along the front right side.Along with my boat there were 5 other boats damaged as well. The dealership is sending it back to Genmar to be repaired. They said it would be back here in 2 weeks.I was fairly dissapointed but what could i do.Open water wont be here until at least late May but the sooner its in the garage to rig up the better!

Tough one

Do you really want a REPAIRED new boat? If I ordered a new vehicle and it arrived dameged I'd make them get another new one!

How do you feel about getting a new boat that has been repaired? It was damaged. Why not just send you a new one? That isn'nt your boat untill you take possession. I'm sure they will do good work on it but that's not the point. Why are you stuck with that boat? The manufacturer is not out anything. You on the other hand have a repaired boat and it will take two weeks longer. If it is not returned in two weeks don't be surprised. Been there.

I assume you mean your dealer called you.
Is he nuts????
What would be the purpose to call when your boat is not available to be turned over to you?
Does he just like to see people cry? Or did he want you to watch HIM cry?
You ought to see some of the new cars and trucks that arrive damaged from shipping. But, they get fixed BEFORE the customer gets called, OF COURSE!

I just got a call from my dealer 2 hours ago telling me my new boat will not be ready for pickup tomorrow. He said that Johnson sent him the wrong motor and he would have to send it back and wait for the correct motor to get here. Ya right- i will bet anyone my dealer ordered the wrong motor and is now blaming Johnson. They had the engine at the dealer for 3 weeks and now the day before I am supposed to pick it up he suddenly discovers that it's the wrong engine?? Geez, they could have come up with a better story then that. I can wait another week but my condfidence in this dealer is dropping fast.

Re the damaged boat,if it were me I would bail from the deal and start over. You will not have a boat soon, but you must think long term on these issues. I wouldnt want a new boat that had to have been repaired before I even took possession.

I agree with MarkG. I bought a brand new Lund Angler last August. After 3 times in the water, the bottom paint was flaking off all over.

The dealer sent the boat back to New York Mills, MN to get the boat repainted. It took 4 months to get my boat back. I was told 3 to 4 weeks!

Demand a new boat or bail on the deal. You will be sorry to play this waiting game.

P.S. If you decide to keep your boat and wait for it to be repaired, don't bother calling your dealer. Call Lund Customer service direct and stay on them. They keep track of these calls and I believe the squeeky wheel gets the grease.
Speaking from experience.

You would be surprised at all the things you already own that had repairs made due to shipping or assembly damage before you bought them. The new house you live in, the new furniture you sit on, the new auto you drive, your refrigerator, the computer you typed on, all are common examples.
The boat had a 4" scrape on it. But 4" is no big fix! You will do worse than that on the first dock you hit and probably not even fix it.
I'd be upset about the scrape, too.
However, you need to be realistic. Go look at new cars, boats, furniture, or what have you, sitting at stores everywhere and you can probably find an imperfection in every item.
Let them fix it, and get on to fishing.

If you do decide to keep this damaged boat make sure and get some $$$$$$$$$$$ back from the deal!!!!Remember you will have a damaged boat fixed or not. Who says in 2 years the paint starts to look bad where they repaired it are they going to fix it again NO atleast not without a fight and a bunch of B.S. to go through to get it done. I agree with the other post request a new boat or tell them to for get the deal!!!!!Good Luck Larry!!!!!!!!

Only thing I could add is, at least they said something. They easily could have done the touch up/repair and never told you, and you would have been none the wiser. Sometimes honesty can make a customer unhappy, but they did the right thing by telling you. The other guy is right, and I think cars see the most "damage" that we never know about. But cabin fever is here, and I know you want to get to fishing!!! It's still a good boat, and should be great over it's lifetime. Have a great season!

Depends on the dealer. Most dealers want whatever the problem is, solved as quickly and correctly as humanly possible. I would not recommend by-passing the dealer, however.
A good dealer can only prove he is a good dealer, if he is given that opportunity.
If you by-pass the dealer without even giving him a chance, you are setting the table for a poor relationship.
The dealer is (supposed to be) on your side.

Sorry to hear about the shipping damage on your boat "55". Where was the scrape on the boat?

The very first thing that you need to do is MOVE no OPEN WATER until May I would be climbing the walls .

While I understand your dismay, its really not that much different than taking delivery of a new vehicle. Say you ordered a new truck. It comes in, you go over it with a fine tooth comb point out little nicks and scrapes. They take it, touch it up and then you take delivery after you inspect it. They are not going to send it back to the factory and get you another one.

Just talked with my Lund dealership today & he guarantees me that the boat will be repainted completely by Genmar on the right side.He also says that he has documented all of this to avoid future problems.I also talked with Genmar this morning and the guy was very apologetic about the situation. He stated that Genmar will also document this for future reference. The scrape was on the front right side,on the pewter color, about 1' below the blue paint. The boat is a MR.PIKE 18.With regards to ice off in late May,i am climbing up the walls & the new boat definetly does not help matters!Would never move though, too many lakes & too many fish, right in my own back yard!I will post regarding the boat when i get it back. Thanks for all your insight guys.

Was it just paint?? When I had posted that if it were me I would bail,I was under the impression it was hull damage. If just paint, they can remedy that easily enough, just takes time. Inspect it carefully when you get it back,if its not perfect, ask for a discount. If they are only repainting one side, make sure it's a perfect match to the other. Hopfully they will expedite and not make you wait til June.
At least it doesnt seem you're missing much in the way of open water fishing right now. Break out the waders and hit the rivers and dams. For now just relax about it til it comes back. There are lots of places to fish til you get your boat!

There was no hull damage, just paint.Genmar guarantees the boat will be ready in 2 weeks.I'll have to wait & see.As far as fishing goes, most of the rivers are frozen as well(-27 here last night).I will ice fish until end of April(45-50" of ice).I have holidays booked from June 12- July 20 so i can catch up on the open water bite then.Good fishing & goodluck!

I feel very sorry for you. It gives me nightmares, as I am waiting for my Lund Fisherman 1800. If the ice is off before you get your boat back you should demand a free loaner boat while yours is off being painted. Just a thought!!

God bless!!
