View Full Version : Trust In Fishing Tables

I just thought I would ask how much people out there trust and rely on the many fishing tables out there? I have had times where they were very reliable and other times they were not even close. I'm headed to the Minaki area in about 3 weeks and the Mauri tables in Outdoor life say that the 21st of July will be very good and than it goes downhill the rest of the week. What tables do you think are the best andy why? Thanks!

In my opinion the numerous tables out there are only a small factor in fishing productivity. To me, weather and time of year is 90% of the bite action. Everything else aside from finding the fish is the other 10%.

That being said, I fish when I have the time. It does not matter what the weather is or the tables. The sad thing is that I never have enough time even if I get to fish 7 days a week!!

When I plan on trips, I check the moon phases since that is predictable and weather is not. I realize that the tables are related to the moon phases but I find that the peak and down times during a day are completely unreliable. Look at all factors available. Just a fishing fanatics opinion :)

One of my fishing buddies used to carry the Outdoor Life tables in his box, really hound on me to fish these days and did well, but he was one of the luckiest anglers I ever fished with. Tides now thats a different story the bigger the water the more the influence also. Weather and season are bigger concentrators for sure, but I fish tides and when "keyed" on them the increased concentratation would not hurt anybody. School fish are influenced more than individuals also. Casio, hmmmmm lets see..

I don't use the fishing times table but when it comes to the moon phases I get weird. Doesnt mean everything all the time but I have had some very good success during new and full moon periods. Not necessarily more fish, but bigger fish are common. Don't ask me why, it just is.

Would like to recommend the mathematical charts that are in the Field and Stream magazine these are tide related with moon phases. And have to be figured by area for accuracy.
Fishing moon phases especially at night is usually one of the considerations I use when establishing a night pattern, seldom do I ever make any determination on what I will use until I am on the body of water. Let the fish make that determination, just offer a little suggestion here and there.

We live on a pond and have about 400' of frontage. I keep rods rigged in the garage. After ten years, I've concluded there is definitely some type of cycle at work. I think it is species and weather dependent more than anything. For example, trout in streams might feed at one time as the hatch comes off where trout in the lake might feed at another to take advantage of a different hatch. Bass activity levels fluctuate greatly with weather and periods of peak activity. Sometimes they'll crash anything that moves, other times they will stare at your offering for minutes while making up their mind. This can all take place within a matter of hours.

I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all table, but all things being equal, it can't hurt to fish during those hours. Like others have said, I'm more motivated by fronts, moon phases and fishing whenever time allows. Going is always better than not! :-)

I believe that moon tables are a minor factor on when fish bite.
I have played around with these tables since they became available many years ago. My best luck is dependant on weather conditions and a couple days on either side of the full and new moon. Also early and late in the day.

I have put all my faith in the solunar tables. As a matter of fact I have used them extensively to build my stock portfolio, as well. This has been profitable for me to the point that I went out and bought a condo using the tables. Interestingly, I timed asking my wife to marry me by using the tables and after several years of trying to have children we had almost given up.
But thanks to closely following the tables she finally got pregnant. Now I use the tables all the time. When buying cars I get better deals on them by following the tables. This goes for furniture and appliances, too.

But, best of all, by trying something new, I have now come to realize that 4 leaf clovers and bunny feet in my boat can improve my catches as well.

Well, happy fishing.

Evidently, then, you don't believe solunar tables a minor factor, minor factor, minor factor.

I suspect most astrologers would gladly give fishing prospects advice. But then again, again, again....

I have checked the Solunar tables against the bluegill and crapie action in the small lake in back of our farm. They do work. The bite gets better with the start of the activity periods and declines with the end of the period. This is with stable weather. A front moving through during a peak time can give a short extra spurt then shut off the bite. I have also kept track of the bite on walleyes and northerns and the same seems to hold true. Go fishing whenever you can and check the changes in the action during the day noting when the bite is the best and then compare your notes with the tables. You might be suprised.
