View Full Version : Use for foot pedal after installing the minnkota copilot.
I am just curious, as to the overall comments on the use of the hand control via the minnkota copilot for their electrically steered trolling motors. I am curious as to how many folks have gone back to using their foot pedal, after installing the wrist mounted copilot.
Take care

I would not go back to the foot pedal after using the wireless remote just once. But if that said, I could see possible using the foot pedal for speed control when trolling. The remote does not have very fine speed control (10 steps 1 to 10) where the foot pedal is infinite. But again this most likely is not needed.
Bottom line, so far (only used it once) I could not see going back to the foot pedal.

I'm getting married this summer so I'll be tying my old AP foot pedal behind the car with the cans as we leave the church! Seriously, that foot pedal was the worst thing Minn Kota ever had. It was awkward to rock your foot left and right - that's a totally unatural movement. And the speed control, don't get me started! Try moving it from speed 3 to 4 with your boot on. You have to pick the stupid thing up with your hand.
When I'm up front jigging, I'm on the pedal. When I need to move around the boat to net a fish, get a minnow, grad a pop or someting, my hand is on the remote. Pretty slick accessary. I don't when the remote on my wrist. I keep one in my pocket and the other remote is laying on the deck near the rear of the boat.
Sorry, that should read "I don't wear the remote....."

I'm just the opposite.
I prefer the co-pilot because it's easy to change the speed. When I used the foot control, I would usually have to bend over and get the exact right speed with my hand (kicking it with the toe never worked good). Now, with the co-pilot, I can pop it up 1/10th at a time and it beeps letting me count exactly where I am. I think speed control is the best feature of the co-pilot.
As for going back to the pedal? Why unravel 18' of cord?

Frankly, this may be your best reason to keep that foot controller hooked up. When you turn off the motor with the Co-pilot and turn it back on, it will approximately resume speed at the setting on the foot controller. So, if your foot controller slide is set at 4, it will hit about that on turning it back on with Co-pilot.
Other than that, the foot controller may be useful to keep in the boat if your Co-pilot's battery dies or you need to use it's cable to have someone tow you back to the dock.
