I have a black/pewter Fisherman with a Mercury. As you might guess, water spots tend to show up on the black paint. Mix some vinegar in with a gallon or two of water and sponge it on, then hose off with fresh water. That should take care of the water spots. The oil spots, I'm not sure.

Try L&L Wonderfoam for the mineral deposits and Multi purpose cleaner for oil and grease. This is the best you're going to find. Also try the Restore to keep the hull shining. Check the products listing here on Walleye Central. There is a distributer for these products that is always here on W.C. Goes by the name of Skeeter. Larry

Thanks Larry, your right about what to use. If you click on products above in the blue, right here on this page and scroll down boat cleaning products you will find just what you need to clean your boat up. If I can answer any of your questions email me at skeeter185@chartermi.net . Thanks Skeeter

1. Wd-40 - works great for oil spots.
2. Lime a way or vineager works great for hard water spots.
3. Rust a way works great for red or iron spots.
4. Westleys tire bleach, works great for any remaining spots.

Take care

p.s.
If you simply buy one small container of each of these products, they will problably last a couple years of motor and hull cleaning.

These products were the products recommended by my glass boat manufacturer for these types of stains and problems and have worked well for me over the years.

By the way - you can use these same products for cleaning the same type of problem spotting out of clothing. Just use these same products to pre spot laundry and put them into the washing machine with laundry detergent. No more spots.

Not too sure if you're talking oil or hard water spots...

If hard water spots, use WORKS bathroom cleaner. Spray on and wipe around, hose off - works awesome.

As far as oil or scum lines, DAWN dish detergent with hot water is hard to beat.

Fatboy, one thing I though I might add. You can go to the store, hardware or what ever and buy different cleaners off the shelf to clean your boat but these cleaners might not be made to boats so be careful what you use. L&L Products are made by a boater/tournament fisherman for us. These products are biodegradable and environmentally safe. I will bet the store bought chemicals won't say that. So be careful. The words "you get what you pay for" is true. To read more about the products you can go to my web page at: http://chartermi.net/~skeeter185/index.htm If you have any further questions contact me. skeeter185@chartermi.net By buying through WC you are inturn supporting WC.

FB- Try plain ole` lemon juice in a squirt bottle- does wonders and is cheap! Works like a charm on My Merc! Take care. Bob WC#253. PS- These aren`t "Squid" stains from the River are they?:)

The stains seem to be from the motor idleing for long periods(slow trolling)and the fumes mix with water and the resulting spots are like hard water spots.Guess when it comes to the boat I'm a little anal.I clean the water intake ports with a pipe cleaner :)

I have always used straight vinegar in a spray bottle has worked great keeping my merc black. Also works great on a silver and maroon fiberglass transom....best part...vinegar is the cheapes thing you can buy...pick up a gallon at the store ...

try any type of bathroom cleaner that takes lime and hard water deposits off. this seems to work like a charm. do not leave any on a stainless steel prop or it will eventually start to rust.
