I just boat a fiberglass project boat today that the paint is really oxidized from sitting outside. What is a good polish to use for removing the oxidized paint, or is rubbing compound my best bet.

Rubbing compound is the easiest. A power polisher is prefered of course. If it's an older glass boat, it will probally start to fade again in a couple months. There's not much you can do with it except to keep polishing it. Keeping it waxed, will help a little.

Go with the 3M marine fiberglass polish/wax for heavily oxidized surfaces.

I used Meguiars #44 Color Restorer and their Cleaner for oxidation. This is a safe alternative to rubbing compound. It will safely remove moderate oxidation and will revive your gelcoat's color and brilliance. After that I would follow up with any good carnauba Wax. I like 3M Marine Ultra Performance Wax or I will follow it up with Meguiars #45 Boat/RV Pure Polish or could go to #55 Boat/RV Premium Sealant or #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax. Myself I like the #55 Boat/RV Sealant. Seems to void off oxidation if used at least once or twice per season. Spring/Fall.

Be very careful on the rubbing compound as you could have a tendancy to leave your finish marred and scratched if to much is applied or to much pressure.

Hope this helps,
