It's a Yamaha 4 stroke. Probably the most reliable motor you can buy. Not much to really say as the quality of these motors speak for themselves.
I've got the smaller cousin the 80 and it has been a fabulous engine. I would buy another tomorrow.
I am currently runnig a 100 Hp Mariner on a 17.5' Crestliner. It runs ~ 43 mph. But it really drinks gas. Would I get about the same top end with the 115 Yamaha 4 stroke?

They have been bullet-proof.
Go for it.
Boz-Just keep in mind that they do have a problem of getting gas in the oil and the idle circuit in the carbs are prone to plugging very easily. There are better choices in that HP range.

RAD,
I'm looking at the Yamaha 90(current version of the 100), curious what "better choices" would be?
Thanks!
The better choice's would be Suzuki/Johnson or a Honda. The Honda has the most time on the water and has proven it's self.

I have never seen a 100 horse come back with any problems other than not beeing winterized right.Never seen or heard of gas in the oil.The motor is the best fourstroke I have seen in the class. All the fourstrokes have the same carb problems if they are not put away with stabil for the winter.I would guese that I have seen a thousand fourstroke Yamahas go out the door without any major problems coming back.I would buy that motor in a heartbeat if that is the size you are looking for.

I have a 2002 mercury 4 stroke. It has been very good except for a problem with the needle valve return clips. There are small wire clips on the needle valves that are attached to the floats to help the needles come down off the seat. With the rubber tips on the needles they tend to stick. On mine, the wire clips bent slightly from I'm gessing all the pounding from the boat and the float height being out of adjustment. With the wires bent, at first start up the needles, usually one or two, would stick and the float would drop until the bowl was dry causing the motor to miss. It took a while to figure it out no thanks to the dealer. Other than that the motor has been great.

I own a '99 100hp Yam 4 stoke with over 500hrs on it. Previous owner reported, not a hitch. I personally have put about 5 hrs on it. (Just bought the boat) Terrific motor!

I have had my 2000 Yamaha 100 hp 4-stroke for going on my third season. Purchased it new in 2001. No problems yet--sweet motor. I just bought a 6 hp Nissan 4-stroke from Cabelas to take the trolling load off of it. Will have it in the water next week...

I have a 1999 F100 purchased new in 1999. I did have both fuel pumps replaced under warranty in 2001. One was leaking but they replaced both since that build of fuel pumps had some issues. No problems since. I have not run the boat on occasion for 1-2 months and have never had any carb issues. I always run ring-free per the manual and always add stabil since my boat has a 27 gallon tank and it might take me 2 months to burn that up. I usually don't burn much gas when I'm fishing because I'm using the electric. I would definitely recommend it. There are some nice options now that weren't available or proven in 1999, such as the new Bombardier Fichtsa and the Suzuki's.

2 oil/filter changes per year
1 lower unit change per year (checked twice a year)
Changed plugs each year until last year, don't seem to need new plugs every year.
Fogged in the winter
Been a great motor overall.
