I am mounting a transducer on my minnkota power drive and can't seem to find a decent way to run the cable up the shaft?

Has anyone found a good way to do this?

All help is appreciated.

Thanks

When I had my Powerdrive I used a black cable tie to connect the transducer wire as low on the shaft as I could and then another black cable tie just under the motor head and then into the boat. I didnt leave alot of slack, you just need enough to allow the motor to be stowed and deployed without getting caught up or hung up by the cable! Hope this helps. GoodLuck! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Did you just leave the cable loose in the middle? Does it wrap or get caught around the turning point on the motor? I looks like the cable would ctch and get cut? It looks like I will have to be really careful with it?

Thanks For the advise.

Im trying to remember, I had that powerdrive on my last boat. Yeah, im 99.9% positive I left it slack, not to much slack though just enough so it could turn all the way around with out being cut off or being pulled to tight! Also, if theres slack it allows you to slide the collar up and down the motor. Does this make sense at all? Good Luck. Let me know how it works out!

Yes, you do make sense. That is how i have it mounted does not look like there is any way else to mount.
thanks for the response!!

Here is what we do, and it works pretty well.

Mount the xducer with the mounting package (lowrance xducer on ours). Put a black tie wrap thru the stainless clamp to tie the wire right at top of the motor/prop) housing.

Then, don't attach it to any other point on the shaft.

Take a black cable holder/clamp (not sure of name, but they are like a "P" if you hold them right, and the cable slides into it and a screw holds it) - make sure the clamp is a few sizes larger than the xducer wire.

We mount that clamp right next to the base of the troll motor on the bow, where the shaft goes down. This keeps the cable right next to the shaft.

Now, when motor is UP, the you pull the cable back into the boat thru the oversized clamp. The cable can just sit in the bow, as there is not much even with a 60" shaft, because you don't always use it all the way down.

When you lower the motor you don't have to do anything. The xducer cable simply slides through the oversized clamp, but it only goes as far as it needs to, the rest remains in the bow. (We tuck the remaining xducer wire into a hole in the bow storage so it looks very clean.)

When you pull the motor up, you simply give a quick little tug on the xducer cable and the slack slides thru the clamp and sits in the bow, nice and tight to the front. It never gets in the way and you can even tuck this excess into the hole in the bow for a cleaner look. And, when you go to put the motor down, it will simply slide out.

Anyway, there is virtually no expense to this, it is very clean (you really only see a cable below the gunwale), it doesn't hinder the operation of the motor at all. It works even when we are bass fishing in real serious slop.

Good luck,
