View Full Version : Walleye recipes
The family is growing weary of the standard fried fish. (Huh?) Does anyone have any suggestions?
Never mind. I found the recipe link on the mainpage.

Check out the Fish Mandarin recipe on the recipe area--it is a good change from the fried fish, and appeals to people who claim they don't like fish....Personally, I don't care if they eat em--more for me..HA! This method of cooking fish in a wok is also great for thicker pieces of fish, since it is steaming the fish--this is the recipe I grab for those times when a bigger fish that I try to release, won't go back...too hard to fry those thick pieces...enjoy...

I just bought a new Cuisinart steamer for $70 off the net at Comfortech.com. After I got it I steamed some walleye filets and rice, then poured Pace picante' sauce over it. It was delicious, easy, and quick, and I don't think anything in the ingredients could kill you as quick as the fried stuff.
I could sure lose a little weight...maybe this will help!

Try the walley on the barbeque... either whole or filleted. I do the diced onion and butter thing and sometimes add tomatoes. Just wrap it up in alum foil and toss it on. Open once in a while and see if it's flaky yet.
Try a walleye taco. (don't laugh until you've tried it)
Use a deep fried fillet or crisp pan fried fillet in a wrap with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese, onion, taco sauce and what ever else you might want to use. I was a skeptic until I had the first one.

Hey Jed, T.W.,
Springboard off the steamer idea. I stillbake most of the time, but I use similar recipies.
Italian Fish:
Pour Italian Style Diced Tomatoes over the Fillets. use no butter and bake them till fish is flaky.
Serve with a bowl of shaped Pasta, pick your kids favorite. I prefer shell shaped or Spring shaped vegitable (Multi Colored) Pasta. Cover with your favorite style/brand Spagetti Sauce.
Also serve Brocolli or fresh green beans. A warm crusty loaf of Italian bread and a tossed salad.
For the adults, your favorite red wine. For the kiddies Fruit juice.
Mexican Fish:
Pour Mexican style Diced Tomatoes, or your favorite Brand/spice Salsa on the fish. Again no butter, bake till flaky.
Serve with Yellow rice (Mexican dish. I have found a suitable one that comes dry packaged in the ethnic food section of the super market) Or white rice. Also a side dish of Refried beans and grilled tortillias.
I make up a batch of what I call Hot Corn with this meal. Whole kernel corn, chop up a little red bell pepper, and finely dice an onion. (About 1/4 cup pepper and one small onion for 1 lb of frozen corn)Mix it all up and use a dash of Lousianna hot sauce to add some umpf.
Warm corn bread and a tossd salad round it out. A pitcher full of brewed Iced tea goes real well. Also Corn on the cob, either boiled or grilled is a good substitute for the hot corn.
You have a feast, that is onthe healthy side as it is low in salt and fat, either way you prepare the dinner.
Dang, now I am gettin hungry!
Have fun...........R

Hey T.W.,
Here's the wife's favorite way that I fix them..
Take nice fillets and rinse and dry them..Place in baking dish with a few pats of butter (don't get too carried away with the butter), add what you like of minced garlic (the essence as Emril calls it), sprinkle liberally with Lawry's lemon pepper seasoning, and finally add a little chopped onion and celery..350 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until fish flakes..Real good with au' gratin taters and a nice salad w/crumbled bacon, shrooms, fresh peas and some freshly ground pepper..A loaf of fresh bread and a glass of white zinfandel before, during and after and you're all set..
Bon' appetit'!!
