I am going to start using 20-lb fire line for trolling with my Off Shore in line planner boards. Did a new clip recently come out where you do not have to double wrar the fire line?

Thanks,

I use the red OR-16 clips for PowerPro 30#, but I still double-wrap. They hold well. Haven't tried or even seen the new OR-18s.

I've used the snapper releases for two yrs. now and they are great. I definitely recommend them for fireline users. They work as advertised and are worth the price,,, about 9.50 when I bought mine. Not sure of cost now. They can also be used for mono cuz they are fully adjustable to your desired tension on the line. I am not sponsored by Wille, Off Shore, or anyone else that may be involved in their manufacture--- I just think they work great! Do not be afraid of buying another gadget that will not be used or useful.

I've tried the snapper releases and find them hard to release, when adjusted to hold fireline. I prefer to use Off Shore boards with Church releases. These are very easy to use, cheaper and hold fireline with no problem. I was told that they will cut your line but this has never happened to me or anyone that I know who has used them. Larry

I have been using 20# Fireline with Off-shore planers with the red releases. I use monofilament as well, so I don't think I'll invest in a special OR-18 release. My planers do have the tattle flags and I still have to double wrap the Fireline in order to maintain the slight amount of slack line between the two releases so the tattle flags will work. Double wrapping really, for me, does not take but only a second or two longer than when clipping the release a single time on mono. I tried clipping the release on just a single line and found that when pulling a 1 1/2 ounce bottom bouncer the 20# Fireline would pull through the back release enough to completely eliminate the slack between the two releases and then the tattle flag would not drop. I found a method to double wrap rather quickly so when using the Fireline, I just go ahead and double wrap. If you were pulling a light crankbait behind the planer, it might not pull the line through the clip, but a bouncer does. Hope this helps. I have yet to experiment pulling a crank behind the planer with the Fireline. (maybe come Sept)
