View Full Version : Lund 1700 Pro Sport
I'm thinking of buying this rig but cannot find any in my area. All the dealers I've talked with only stock the 1700 Fisherman but would order the Pro Sport. I saw the Pro Sport at a dealer last year and liked the smaller size, lack of jump seats, etc. Does anyone own or have experience with the Pro Sport with either a 90 or 115 HP? I have a buyer for my current rig and need to make up my mind soon. Thanks for any and all replys.
Many of the dealers in the Minneapolis area indicate that they have about a 50:50 split on Pro or Fishermen sold.
Generally, they are rigged with either a 90 or a 115 hp motor.
Typically they run out in the high 30s or the low to mid 40s with either of these motors.
Mainly satisfied owners with either of these rigs and motors.
Take care

I have an 03 Pro Sport with a 115 Suzuki 4 stroke. This is a very nice boat for my wife and I. Its easy to fish out of, rides good and has decent storage. Its also easy to use when your fishing or putting it away by yourself.

I have a 02 pro sport(1675)with a yamaha 100hp-4 stroke, I like everything about it. Speed is 41,just the wife and I, and it's perfect for us.
I have an older model 1997 1700 ProSport with a 115 Merc 2-Stroke and I really like it. I can get about 43-44 MPH by myself with a 20P Laser II Stainless Prop. Its easy to load alone, but accomodates me and the wife nicely. Any questions, let me know. I think you'd really enjoy the rig. You may want to try Soo Sports in Sioux Falls, SD, depending how far you would drive for a boat, but they usually beat the competition when pricing out new rigs. www.soosports.com

We sell about 6 to 4 Fishermen vs Prosports. (More Fishermen)
We have many 1700 Prosports on hand. Very popular boat. A 90 pushes them nicely and a 115 makes them run 42-46.
Where are you located?

I have a 2000 1700 Pro Sport with Merc 115hp two stroke. I love it. It's the best of both worlds. I'm impressed with it's fishability. But if I want to go skiing with the guys there is plenty of room and power. I think it will be more than enough boat for you. I hope you enjoy it too.

I can't help with the dealer question. I did have a 97 Pro Sport w/ a 90HP Evinrude. Nice boat and with kicker and normal load it would run about 38-41 depending on the day and the water conditions. I would expect a 115 to consistently run in the low 40's.
Good luck..

I have a 2002 Pro Sport, 115 EFI 4 Stroke.. cannot say enough great things about it! I highly reccomend a Trailmaster 4 Bunk Trailer if you can get one, it is built like a tank and mine matches my Blue Lund.. mine also has a detach tongue so fits anywhere at 18 feet 8 inches long.... I have a Minn Kota Genesis, LOwrance X-51, X-91, and did lots of rigging myself... including Interior and rodbox lighting, addtioinal gauges, side rails with Scotty Rodholders, 2 Walker portable downriggers, etc. I have the full Top set, bow cushion set, custom cover, and misc.. I would be happy to send pictures if you like of my rigging.. ALso I would highly reccomed 115 HP and a good Prop.. With this you get the most out of the Lund IPS Hull.. I get 45MPH fish a fishing load aboard.. A few things, jump seats can be added to the rear and the 2nd rear cooler can be converted to a 2nd livewell.. Good Luck!

I did the livewell conversion. Its no walk in the park. I even installed a second overflow and valves that allow me to use either or both livewells. This could be a nice addition for the boat from the factory. Lund did want to be sure my engine didn't weigh over 420 pounds. I really like the boat.

Sounds like you are looking for new and it's probably not the
place I'd ever look for a boat but there is a '99 w/a 90hp
on ebay under lund boats. Maybe someone you could question?
Good luck on the boat decision.
Thanks everyone I'm sold. It sounds like we're all thinking along the same lines when looking at this rig, layout for fishing, loading, wife, etc. I have a Yamaha 4 stroke now and would go with either the Yamaha or Mercury 115 4 stroke on the Pro Sport. I live in south central Wisconsin near Madison and have no problem traveling to check one out. I can go without a boat for a few weeks but the dealers say it would take 6 to 8 weeks to order.

I have a 2002 Lund 1675 ProSport (I think the same dimensions as the 2003 1700 ProSport) with a 2002 115-HP Suzuki 4-stroke. Fabulous, very quiet combo, even at wide open throtlle! Love the combo. Trolls down to ~1.5 mph with the 115-HP motor.
Check with EsoxProSport (post #8) on rigging the boat. Your bow mounted trolling motor should be the 60" shaft model. This boat keeps you dry in heavy weather because it has a lot of freeboard.
If you can get a new 2002 1675ProSport at discount, jump on it because it will be good value / great boat.

How do you have your motor setup - height, prop etc.
What sort of top speed do you get with your rig?
If I was willing to bet - I would assume that you are probably topped out at 44 GPS?
Take care

p.s.
The reason, that I ask is that I am thinking about picking up one of the Suzuki 4-strokes this year and wanted to get relative comparisons.
Thanks

I have a Pro Sport with a Suzuki 115 4/stroke. Its mounted in the 3rd hole. I also run a four bladed Power Tech prop. My boat will run in the high 40's.

Mounted on the 3rd hole vertically on the transom.. What price are they quoting you on the 115 Suzi?
With a 17 pitch prop at 6,200' elevation, I can troll at ~1.5 mph and top out (6,000 rpm) at 36 - 38 mph.
With a 21 pitch prop at ~3,200' elevation, I can troll at ~1.8 - 1.9 mph and top out (6,000 rpm) at 42 - 44 mph.
I haven't gotten a chance to run the boat at sea level, but hear that improves the speed a couple mph more. Good luck.
You'll love the motor. Read your instruction manual very carefully on the break-in period before you take it out on the water. Suzuki has very specific instructions for the 1st 10 hours.

I put an hour meter on my boat. To date I have around 40 hours on the engine. Second season. I think it runs better every time I go out. I can't say enough about Power Tech props.
