Has anyone tried the rapala fishing line yet?
just wondering how it compares with Trilene or Stren.

FWIW --- I've tried the Finesse -- found it to be strong but has poor abrasion resistance.I wouldn't recommend it for an all purpose application.I'm sticking with Silver Thread or TECTAN from Cabela's.Both are TOUGH! JimmiG.

I dont give it high remarks either. I will go back to XT. Seems to break too easily.

I have been using the sensor for few months now. So far it has been performing just fine. I fish 3-4 times a week so it gets quite a bit of use.

The finesse breaks too easy for my liking. I'll stick with silver thread. They put their money into the product instead of the advertising. Try running a piece between your fingers and compare that thin slick uniformity to all the other lines. Most other lines are sticky when they go thru your fingers. Silver thread slides like a thin strand of teflon.

I just looked into Rapala fishing line, and noticed that it is made in Germany other quality lines that are made there are Ande and Maxima looked as though it was a limp version of Maxima not sure on that but the gray clear color would be good for transparency.

Where are you guys finding the silver thread? I haven't been able to find it in the Cabelas catalouge or web site this summer. I see the Silver Thread Exabilber but not the Super Silver Thread.

I concur with the other posts as far as breaking.
I did a bit of testing earlier this spring and found that the Rapala line is nearly equal to tournamanet IGA line. i.e. - if the line is rated for 6 lb line - it breakes at 6 lb.

I think that if you check most other brands of line - the rated lb test is about 1/2 that of actual breaking strength. Thus a typical berkley, or stren, or silver thread, will break at about double the marked lb test. Thus a 6 lb line, actually breaks at about 10-12 lbs.

So, if you want a Rapala line with a comparable breaking strength, and comparable size, simply increase the lb test. i.e. if you normally fish with 6 lb test of other brands, go to an 8, 10 , or 12 lb rapala line, and you will be fine.

Take care

Firetiger, Bass pro shops Auburn Hills has it off and on their green makes excellent leader material? Clear not bad either I liked it for the memory. Call ahead though especially about the availability of the test, they did stock 1/4 pound and larger.

I have used Rapala Tough #12 for tying up my own spinner/crawler harnesses. Tought #12 is a good blend between being "limp" and therefore easy to work with and "stiff" and therefore helping the crawler to straighten out. I have also found it to be equal to Trilene XT as to abrasion resistance. In summary, I have been pleased with Rapala Tought #12 for the crawler harness application.
