After reading other posts about Oil consumption, can someone give me the ratio that my 2003 Merc. 200 OptiMax should be using?
Is it a standard 50-1 type ratio, or does it vary the mixture when running at different RPMs?

In a recent Bass and Walleye Boats article, Mercury used this logic to explain oil consumption for optimax engines:
Your old 2 stroke was 50:1, so if you got 5mpg, then 1 gal of oil will go 250 miles. The optimax engine will use the same amount of oil over the same distance, but use 30% less fuel. This means your ratio is more like 34:1, but you saved on fuel.
I think they use too much oil, not to mention the almost double price for the optimax oil.

Ok, then if it uses less fuel and same amount of oil then the opti would burn "dirtier" not cleaner. I think (just guessing sort of) that the info is backwards. Just my logic, Brian

burning less gas is cleaner running, burning same oil is same burning therefore over all cleaner running.
