I have a 17.5 ft aluminum sylvan
with a 9.9 4stroke trolling motor
and cannot go as slow as I would
like. My prop says its a 9.
How much difference will going
to an 8 make or should I go
to a 7? Any ideas how much this
should cost?

Do a search for this subject, there was a thread a week or so ago with the same question.

Merc 9.9 4S Big Foot kicker on an 18 Alumaweld: I could only get to 2.0 MPH with the stock 10.5 x 9.5 prop. I bought another 10.5 x 9.5 and had it repitched to 5.5; I now get down to 1.4 MPH. The Big Foot swings a big prop; as they say, YMMV..
on my 19 1/2 hull the 7 pitch gets me down under 1 mph. with your lighter hull a 5 pitch should do the trick.
If it's a Merc, try a 6 pitch, 4 blade prop. ($107 retail) It will troll down much slower than the standard 9 pitch and give you much better steering control.

Where is a good place to get one online?
Dont really want to go to a boat dealer to pay
way too much!
