Those who fish crawlers on Mille Lacs might be interested in an observation of mine. I decided to try Tru Turn Red #4 and #6 baidholder hooks on my crawler rigs. I tie them myself and use 2 hooks. The last three weeks have put at least 100 fish in the boat. The majority have been caught on crawlers and with the TT hook rigs. I didn't hit me until last weekend when the last of my TT rigs broke. I switched over to my regular hook rigs and began to miss a few fish. All day I had been hooking at least 2 to 1 what my partner was. Prior to the switch I had not missed a fish all morning, and in fact I was drifting fast and the hits were more like I was trolling raps. Looking back at the last 2 weeks, I had inexperienced anglers both times and it was odd to watch them just all of a sudden have a fish on. I believe they hooked every fish they encountered. Also, assuming 80 of those fish were caught on TT rigs, not one was hooked very deep and none swallowed it. I believe that the fish grabbed the crawler, clamped down, the hook rotated and immediately hooked them. The regular hooks just pulled out of their mouths. Just an observation.

I've been using Tru Turn hooks for several years and in my book you get more solid hooksets over a standard hook. They also work well under slip floats. I also use them for perch vertically. The fine wire models seem to work the best for me....

Are you using the tru turns on spinners? I have used them for slipbobbering and they are GREAT, but I have not used them on spinners. Can you buy them in bulk?

Tes they work very well on spinners. I order mine from Bass Pro Shops.

I have been buying the TT red baitholder hooks from Gander Mountain, however I found them at Walmart last night. Walmart is the cheapest @1.49 for 6.

I use alot of Truturn hooks for spinners. I like to tie the hook and leave a 3/8" tag, then stick the hook in the crawler's nose and thread him all the way up on the line. The long tag will hold him there. Lots of walleyes either with a spinner or just the leader and the hook.
good luck,
