Im going to be building my first rod this weekend, im taking a class so i get the basics down. Im most likely going to be making a 6' 6" medium spinning rod. Are there anythings I should make sure and do, look for, or any other pointers you can give me?
Thanks again to everyone, MarbleEye's

Since you mentioned that you are taking a class, it should cover all the information you need. As far as tips? Well, it is anticipated that the class should show you all the ropes.
I ended up learning to build rods from a small shop in the Chicago area. The basic tenets are:
1) it is not rocket science
2) a good eye and patient hands are all you need.
3) Fancy (diamonds wraps, inlays, designs) does
not catch more fish.
4) While nice to have, the fancy rod building jigs
and turning motors are not necessary items. I
used a couple of bent wire hangers for a rod
rest, ran my thread out of a cup and passed it
through an old physiology book for thread
tension, and notched a box for a drying rack.
Also, cutting out a box works well for a rod
rest also.
5) I like a good single edge razor (hard to find)
or a fresh scalpel blade for cutting the thread
as close to the windings as I can.
6) When drying epoxy, make sure there is no open
windows or vents open (dust will settle into
the epoxy)
I'm sure the rest will be shown to you. Good luck.

I had a friend who would use the electric rotisserie attachment for his barbeque to turn meat one day, rods the next. Whatever works!
