Hi Guys: I am shopping for a boat cover for my Crestliner 18. I have a price for a custom trailering cover made from "Top Gun" cloth with stainless snaps and a motor cover for $495. The guy does good work, but that seems steep to me. That may be a good price, but I am not aware of what is on the market.
I did look at a couple of Amish "tarp shops". There prices are MUCH lower, but the quality of the work was very crude. Great work for farm trailers and utility trailers (they made a canvas top for a utiltiy trailer for me), but not good enough for a boat cover.
What do you think? Any references to someone near the Canton / Akron area (or even somewhere else reasonably close) who does good work at a reasonable price? Maybe somewhere up near the islands?
Thanks, Ohio fisherman

I am about to buy a custom cover. I have been quoted $600 and $700 by the 2 places I have talked to in Milwaukee. $495 doesn't seem to bad to me ... laughing here.
Good luck.
Paid a little over $400 for a custom cover for my Lund Angler SS at Custom Faberkin in Fond du Lac. Fit and looks great. Done in a day. Depending on the boat and material, I would think $495 is reasonable. I checked into Milwaukee companies also. Got mine in Fond du Lac. Better cover, better price.

Again from the Milwaukee area...
I was quoted approx $350-$375 for a trailerable custom canvas cover for my Crestliner 1650 Fishhawk.
Hope this helps ball park it for you...

Check out this web site. My Dad just ordered a tarp from them. Free shipping also.
That all depends on what "Top Gun" is? Other than being a really good movie, I'm not familiar with that material. If I was spending $500 on a custom cover for an 18 footer, I wouldn't consider anything but sunbrella. Nothing is more UV proof than sunbrella. I have paid as much as $800 for custom subrella covers for 20+ foot boats. Good custom canvas is not cheap. But it looks and fits oh soooo good.

I live down in Dover, Ohio and have had a local "Amish" tarp shop make up new covers for a number of my boats, and friends boats - they use "top gun" materials, and I believe the price would be closer to about $400 or so for your rig......this shop does great custom work
(a number of my buddies from other parts of the midwest can't believe
that I can get this good of a quality "Top Gun" snap-on cover for the
price).
Email me if you wish, and I'll get you information on this shop. It's
outside of Winfield, Ohio.

Honestly, that is not a bad price for a custom tarp in Top Ten cloth! I can give you info on the outfitter that has made my covers over the last ten years, if you want them!
They are located in Conneautville Pa. and are an Amish family business. That's not too far from you. I have sent quite a few people to them and NO ONE has a complaint - NO ONE!! They LOVE there covers, as do I!

Hi Guys:
Thanks for the replies. It appears that the price quoted to me is reasonalble. I have seen this guy's work and it is outstanding. The fit and finish is super and he is very fussy. It is nice to know that the I am not getting reamed. So, I will take my boat there next Monday morning. He says 2-3 days turnaround. Boat will be kept in a locked fenced area. Hopefully nothing will be missing. I will report back about the cover.
Thanks again, O F:)

Me Too,
The shop that I got a quote from was I believe Ace Canvas. The are located in West Bend, WI on Hwy 33 right next store to Cedar Lake Sales (where I bought my boat)
Hope this helps.
