Batteries for Trolling

What is the best way to connect two 12 volt batteries together to provide longer lasting power on the water for my 12 volt trolling motor. Understand I don't want to give it 24 volts.

You can use garden tractor (short) battery cables for the wires. They are hanging near the batteries at Walmart or any autoparts store can fix you up. $3-4 each.
