I am looking at a 150 Opti on this boat. I want to run a SS prop. Have any of you done this? I know this a new boat for this season but I hope some of you might have tried it out.
I know that the Merc website recommends props. I put in several weight configurations and came up with a 14.5x19 and 14.5x21 for recommendations. Anybody tried these?
I have a Mr. Pike 18 with a Mercury XR6 150. A Mercury Tempest 21 pitch prop gave me 50 mph, top speed @ 5000-5200 rpm max. Now I'm trying a Tempest 19 pitch, top speed 49.5 mph @ 5500-5600 rpm. Speed was acording to GPS. Both have good hole shots
Hope this helps!

It does help. Thanks Joe.
I am surprised that a difference in 2 pitch steps gave you such little difference in top end. I would have thought it would have been 3 mph or so, not just .5 mph.
My Laser2 in 14.5x19 maxes out at 49.5 also and if I recall correctly does this at about 5700 rpm, which is just 50 rpm below the max. All this is with max weight and full fuel tank. I have been thinking about trying a 21 (just for experimentation), but with your experience, maybe I don't need to bother.
By the way, my motor is set one hole from the top.
Hole shot is so powerful it is scarey.

See if you can try a HI-5 in 21 pitch with the vent holes in it. I had one on my past Lund Pro-V 1775 with a 150 Opti and was very happy. If I remember correctly I got about 52 gps and RPM was towards the upper limits and hole shot was AWESOME. I never did get to try a Tempest but if I did I would've liked to have tried one in a 19 pitch. I also tried a 19 pitch Offshore but it could spin to many R's. A 21 pitch Lazer II... not enough R's. The Hi-5 is a smaller diameter prop and worked really well for me so that's what I stuck with. It seemed to be able to carry the boat on plane at lower a RPM also. Good luck in your adventures. FNF

Good information so far. Anybody else? Thanks to those that contributed so far.
