View Full Version : Anybody use those Intercast type rods?
Anybody using those rods where the line feeds through the center of the rod? What do you think of them?

Daiwa has one that is fine for downriggers. I would not want to use one for casting, however.

Have been using some of the Cabela's inline rods -- 8' medium (6) and 9' heavy action (2) paired up with Diawa SG27 and SG47 reels -- for a couple years now. I really like them for downrigger (8') and dipsy divers (9') trolling. Good even rod bend and no eyes to catch the line.
Tried one of their casting rods at the Michigan store, and it worked fine, but I don't do much of this type of fishing so I didn't buy.
I have not had the problem, but have talked to Lk Ontario anglers that have had problems with the water fleas jamming up in the blank and causing problems.

I like the concept but, I've been concerned about how to clean the blank out once trash gets in there. I've picked some interesting looking things off my guides over the last 9 years. I don't know how I'd get them out of the middle of a rod blank.

As I understand it (at least in the Diawa info) the inside of the blank has a spiral "ridge" that keeps the line up off the blank -- sort of like a rifle barrel.
I use 30# Fireline on my Cabela's 9' heavy action inline rods and have never had a problem with line wear. Did have a 36# Chinook manage to take out all 200 yards of my Fireline and get into the backing in late July last year. The uni-knot joining the superline and mono went out just fine through the tip. Reeling it back in presented a problem as the knot was too big to get back into the blank. Had to "help" it through and did manage to land the fish, but it was a little nerve wracking for a bit -- I'll put up with it for a 36# King :-).
Have since gone to 20# Ande for the backing and the uni-knot is small enough to get through just fine.

I bought a 6ft platinum zx innercast rod from Cabelas. Its extremly sensitive, however I wouldn't say that there so great for casting. They do cast well but not like a rod with guides. I dont know about how the other rods can be cleaned but on my the is a metal screw type but plate on the the handle. After you take that off im guessing you can plug up the first guide hole that the line go's threw, then take a compressor and blow all the stuff threw.
