I just got an LMS 160 and might mount the reciever
about 3 feet in front of my vhf antenna. Would this be a problem? If so, would it only be a problem if the vhf was on or anytime? Need to install this week so any info would be great. Thanks

The recommendations/instructions I have seen suggest mounting the GPS antenna and VHF antenna apart from each other --- if possible.

That said, on my boat my Magellan GPS's antenna and the VHF radio 8' antenna are mounted about 2' apart (GPS forward of the VHF) and I have not had any problems. Had them about 4' appart on my previous boat.

I suspect that the potential problem would be when transmitting on the VHF. Since both antennas are receiving signals that are always present, the only time a new signal is introduced is when you transmit on the VHF.

When i got my global nav. 310 a few years ago i made the mistake of mounting it to close to my marine band radio,i would loose my position, ect. Well i mounted it on the bow next to the trolling motor and i have never had a nother problem. You could mount it on the bow and also i've seen them mounted on the gunwell on the other side of the antena for the marine band.In any event i would lay where i think i want to mount and try the unit out, see how it works before drilling any holes. Good Luck

I'm set up same as Lundy, with GPS antenna on bow next to trolling motor, VHF antenna on port side even with windshield. I've also seen the GPS antennas mounted on the starboard gunnel as far back as possible.
