I need to buy a boat lift as I am tired of taking my boat in and out.
My question is, should I buy a canalever style lift or a vertical lift. I am assuming a 2400# model will work. I am looking at Floe, Hewit and Newman. Are their pro's and con's to the two styles. Does anyone have one of these models that they would like to comment on.
My boat is a 2002 1775 Pro-V dual console with a 140 4 stroke Suzuki.

First I'd recommend going to a 3000lb lift. I think you'd be getting awfully close to maxing a 2400lb out. Remember gear, gas, and people getting in and out of the boat, when it's still on the lift. As far as cantilever vs vertical, I like the vertical for three reasons. The vertical has greater carry, both up, for big waves, and down for shallow water. It also allows the boat to be completely under the canopy whether the boat is up or down. It also distributes the weight of the boat evenly whether the boat is up or down. The only draw back is if you don't have a relatively flat bottom lake. If the lift isn't relatively level the posts can bind. There are also less moving parts on a cantilever, therefore less to have problems with.

I have only delt with cantilever designs but do go to a 3000# lift make sure it is aluminum and have a set of wheels for easy removal in the fall.
Most lifts go in real easy but come out hard because it is usually uphill and sunk in the sand or mud.

I have the same boat as you. I have a vertical lift Shorestation. Any of the mentioned lifts would do a good job. My recomendation is a vertical lift at least 3000 pound capacity with a cover, Nice for keeping boat from weathering, and a electric winch.

Do you have a canope or a cover. If you have a canopy, what length is correct 20' or 22'

For sure go with a vertical and buy a 3000 pound, your to close to max on a 2400lb with gear, batteries, fuel and bodies, theres less than $200 difference between the two(your next boat will be bigger, not smaller). I bought a Floe #3200, by far the best quality, I like there easy level leg system. This allows you to adjust your legs using only a cordless drill and make all of your adjustments above water. I also bought it because of the canopy system, its much deeper and is easier to install and remove. Get the electric winch its only $100 more and hooks to your boat battery. I've had a Floe dock and trailer for years and now the lift, they make good stuff!
