I have a 2000 8hp four stroke Evinrude which doesn’t want to run a low idle/speed. When new, I could put in forward with tiller throttle all the way down and it would purr at low speed forever. It may sit for two or three weeks between use and has low hours. Should I be running all the fuel out each time? Could it be clogged up from the fogging oil or gas? I tried switching it to my main motors line and it ran the same with a different primer bulb. The plugs look decent and I threw in another cleaned up used set with same results. What should I try next short of going to dealer fuel conditioner even the main motor is running fine from same tank? Thanks gilly

No don't want to mess with anything as nothing has changed and it used to run as smooth as silk. I have tried the portable tank with freash gas and new inline filter with same results. Dealer said it might be gummed up a bit as the orifices are very small in 4 strokes. So I will run through some OMC fuel conditioner cleaner. I have tried adjusting the small rotating knob on the end of tiller but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I rotated it CW quite a bit with no change. I will start to run out the gas after each trip from now on and maybe that will help? Need to get that slow speed back soon as the fish are biting.

Gilley, I have the same engine and had the same problem. My dealer found two items involving the carb. First off, the gasket for the carb
had a slight flaw making it uneven. Next thing there was a very small particle in the needle in the carb that was clogged. He replaced the gasket and removed the particle and now it runs smooth as can be. I had a hard time keeping the engine running before my dealer fixed it. Idles very nice as well. Given old OMC's quality problems I would check into this. Hope this helps.

Thanks Islander for the reply. I think you are right on the money. I had to run it yesterday with the choke pulled partially out to get her to run at slower speeds. It would also idle up and down without touching the throttle. My brother in law said the same thing the needle jet it plugged with something. Into the dealer today before the fishing gets too hot.
