I have a 1995 70 hp oil injected Johnson outboard that starts like a dream and after warming it up it runs great. That is, until you turn it off. After shutting it off to fish, I restart it and it will stall out when I try to take off. Have tried everything from letting it warm up for minutes to revving the engine. Nothing works. It always stalls after the initial run and shut off, and it does this every time after the intial run. Any suggestions?
couple of things I would check.
I would check/replace fuel filter, also pull plugs and replace if you have not done so. After your initial run, run the boat in gear at idle speed for a while, then pull the plugs and inspect them. you migh find that the engine is running too lean or too rich, which could partially explain the stalling you mention. Gap should be .030 (assuming you know these, but covering all bases here).
Last thing I would do is go get a product called powertune (it's a merc product and OMC has a product like it too) Get the motor warm, and then follow the directions using the power tune. It may be as much as getting some of the gunk out of the cylinders and carb intake.
There may be little things too like your timing of the engine may be off just a touch. Even a little off on timing will cause issues, and when you tie in many little issues, it becomes a common recurring problem.
Hope this gives you a start.

Replace the pump bulb,
I think you are losing fuel supply when the engine is not drinking.
Does the bulb need to be pumped to get it going again?
Then check all the clamps for tight ness.
Mine did this and it was the bulb.
Look at the feul filter and see if there is gas in it when you can not fire, it should stay full, maybe change it while you are at it.
Glad in starts so easy mine is very cold blooded at first starts.
Very quick start when warm though.
Good Luck.

I have the same motor with the same problem. Had a complete tune up and still stalls. Can rev it up in neutral but when in gear and throttled up it dies. Still trying to find out what is going on.

I too had it tuned up at a dealer that I will never again do business with. They had it for 2 weeks the first time and 3 weeks the second time. They never fixed it either time, but I got charged for it. They have a test lake that they advertise that they run all of the boats in when servicing, but I tied my tarp on through different holes in the trailer and tie down straps and they were still tied that way when I picked the boat up. I was told that they drove it around in the lake, but know that wasn't the truth. After three strikes I gave up with this dealership. Wouldn't take a row boat to them.

Hay guys I had a evnrude outboard and had the same problem. The motor would never stall when first ran but after it warmed up or I tryed to troll with it it would stall time after time. I also took it to a dealer and he rejeted my carbs and this did not help and pissed me off. So I went to the public libery and got a book on this 70 horse 1984 After reading a article in there about stalling this made good sense to me. Afte running the motor the first time of the day the coils get hot and they tell me thay have a primary and secondary winding inside the coil. How ever this primary breaks down and through spark into the secondary and this is why you start ok but give it throttle and this stalling starts again. tO FIND problem coil you need to get volt meter and set it on resistance or ohms.Take the lowest reading between all three coils and junk it put in the new one and go fishing. PS start with bottom coil first I think the lake water afected mine> big waves on erie. just adding my experince. the dearhunter1955
