We're planning on a September hunting/fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. We've booked with this resort. Do you have any comments on what we might expect. Good or bad.
This is our first Canadian trip and I'm hoping for no surprises.

Thanks.

Yes, I have been to the Obabikon Bay Resort at least 12 times over the past 10 years. I have gone primarily the first week in October when my friends blast ducks and I jig for walleyes. The camp is very nice with showers in each cabin. You WILL NOT lose any weight as the food is plentiful and good. The equipment and the environment are also extremely good. If possible, I would HIGHLY recommend you INSIST on a guide for at least one day and the only guide to have is BILL LOONEY. He is a local guy and an extremely hard worker and knows the area very well. I have gone their in August also with my son on their father/son deal and we continue to go back every year. We are scheduled for the 9th of August this year. As far as the fishing, I have always found it to be decent. Out of the 3-4 days we stay, at least 2 are excellant and 2 are average. Some years, northerns dominate and other years walleyes dominate. If I have any complaints, it is in regard to the low limits. My son is 17 and can eat our limit of walley for shorelunch by himself. We have a tendency to have shore lunch near a reef so he can eat, clean and fry walleye almost all at once. The new owner, Steve, is a nice enough guy but fishing information is not plentiful. You need to dig for the info as very little is volunteered. Please feel free to email me if you have any specific questions. Have fun!
