Ran the boat a few times and I have a few questions for you guys. With a full tank, gear and two guys my top speed is about 45mph. I am running mainly in wyoming at 4700 feet.
The motor is set up all the way so that the cavitation plate is about an 1 1/2 above the hull. I can peg 6000 rpm and go over, not sure though I did'nt try it. I currently have a 19 pitch tempest and I put a 21 pitch thinking the rpm would come down and the speed would then go up. Not so, it did'nt perform near as well, seemed like it was way to much prop for the motor.
My only choice I think is to drop the motor down one more hole because I definitely don't want to over rev the motor. Only thing is wont this drop my speed even more. Or is it possible that I am not catching enough water for the prop and it is slipping with the motor mounted all the way up. Another thought is maybe the prop isn't catcing enough water to keep the bow up and I am creating drag. With this setup my best speed comes with the motor not trimmed all the way up, I have to trim back down with full throttle, or else I can trim all the way up but not use full throttle to avoid over reving. Maybe this helps.
How are your boats setup and what is your speed. Another concern is the water. I have checked the pee stream coming out and it is cool to the touch, but is it possible that I may not be getting enough water to the engine, just want to be safe. Thanks for the help, sure helps going the long way. Trial and Error.
