I have had an ongoing situation where I am finding water (about 1/2 cup) in the lower unit of my 2001 90 hp Mercury. To date the following has been done: 1) seal at the prop has been changed; 2) New gaskets put in the lower unit drain, vent, and fill plugs; 3) Pressure tested. Yet, water is still present after using. Also, I believe that water also gets in when the motor is run with a garden hose attachment. Any ideas on what to look for or what the problem could be.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight that you can provide.

You also have a driveshaft seal and a shift rod seal that could be bad. Also, the prop shaft or the drive shaft could have scores (grooves) in them.
Take the engine to a "good"mechanic and have them do both a 24 hour pressure test and a 24 hour vacuum test. If you have water in your lower unit, one or both of these tests will fail.
Simply pull the lower unit, change the part or parts that are bad and you will be good to go.
As the other post suggested, you have a bad part in the lower unit. It could be a bad seal, it could be a crack in the lower unit itself, it could be a scored drive shaft, etc. etc. etc.
A good mechanic, should be able to easily find the problem.
Take care
