Need some help. I had put DFI Merc Premium oil in the oil resevoir. Also have been using none ethanol high octane 91 as fuel. Have a 135 Opti new that I am breaking in. I did not use much of the DFI oil as the resevior had the original fill from the dealer. I am thinking of dumping the oil and putting in the Optimx synthetic Merc oil. Is the fuel ok and is the DFI Premium ok to run or should I dump it as I said above? Thanks

I'm assuming the Mercury oil you put in the reservoir was "Premium Plus". Your motor will be double oiling during the first 10 hours of operation. Make sure you use as much oil in the tank as possible (if you choose to use it) before switching to the DFI oil. Premium Plus won't hurt your motor, it just doesn't burn as clean as Opti oil, and in the long run you may have more problems with carbon buildup etc.
A DFI (DFI=Direct Fuel Injection i.e. Optimax) motor will perform better with a specially formulated oil. I use only Optimax oil in my Opti's with a midgrade octane (89 with extra detergents). I avoid ethanol like the plague. My 225 does not run as well on 92 octane nor does Mercury recommend it's use in these motors. Good Luck, Jim Carroll #588
