Anyone have any luck finding the right prop and hole for their motors yet?

Waz,
Took my new rig out for the first time this past weekend and was able to put some time on the motor. I am running a Stratos 21 MSX with a Yamaha 250hp HPDI with the saltwater series 23p prop. Not very impressed with the performance with this setup.
Only turning about 5200 rpms and 54 mph GPS with this prop before it blows out. No kicker, or really loaded yet so I was disappointed by the lack of rpms. Talked to a guy who has the same setup and he switched to a 21p Tempest and he is getting 5700 rpms and running 59 mph.
I will be looking for something different soon. Let me know if you find something that works well for you. Good luck.

I'm running a 250 hpdi on a Lund 2025 - not the same hull, but I got dramatic improvements when I went to a Tempest 21p. Went through a Laser II (5500 rpm, 52 mph) and a Yamaha Pro Series (5400 rpm, 55 mph). With the Tempest, I'm getting 5500 rpm and 58-59 mph. Also, for whatever reason, the ride seems quite a bit smoother.

I have tried about everything on my 250HPDI on a 621 Ranger. Next I am going to put on trim extenders and lower the motor with the Jack plate to try to get more lift. The 21 Salt Water prop from Yamaha still performs about the best of all for top speed but still needs to run more RPMS. I think the main problem is with the Yamaha 250 HPDI. It drinks oil like crazy at full throttle even after changing out the linkage rod per Yamaha's specs. I think Yamaha needs to get their act together on this one yet.
I will let you know if the trim extenders do anything.
I am currently running a 4 blade 21 Merc prop. No improvment on RPM or top end. I have tried the 21 Tempest but it acted about the same as the Salty.

How many hours on that 250?
You need 10 hours @ 2500 rpms or more before the double oiling stops. (it is automaticly done by the computer).
You will use 1 gal of oil per approximately 25 gals of gas until the "break-in" is over.
Yes, it is a lot of oil.
This may be why:
One guy told me his last motor, a 225 Opti burned a lot less oil! (it did, we changed 2 burned down powerheads for him while he owned it).

The 2003 250 HPDI models are set up to use 2 quarts per hour at 4000 RPM. The 2004 models will be using less oil 0.9 quarts at 4000 RPM. I don't know if this will be available as an update for the 2003 models.
Mine is an oil hog also, just put in the recall linkage and I'll see how it goes then...

I have about 32 hours on my 250 HPDI. The oil consumption seems to double from 4000 RPM to 5200 RPM. I am on my second set of plugs and they look are black with oil residue. My dealer says he has been talking to Yamaha and they say that it is going to use that much oil. I just think they don't have the right answer yet.
