I still have not decide to purchase the 2000 Explorer XLT. Keep looking around.
How about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 V8? Is good car?
Tow the boat 1500 lbs approx, good?

As long as the Jeep is in good shape, you'll have no problem at all towing 1500#. My Jeep Liberty will tow 1500# without a whimper and I only have the 210HP 6 cylinder.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 V-8 is an excellent tow vehicle with the trailer towing package. I tow a Ranger 617 with a 150 engine. ( Total package is around 3500 lbs) and it does a very good job. Make sure that you tow with the automatic transmission locked out of overdrive. I believe the maximum recommended towing capacity is 6500 pounds for the Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 engine, but I would never tow that much with this vehicle.
How do you like your Liberty? What do you use it mostly for? What kind of gas mileage does it get?
I have been thinking about getting one.

Jeep parts are more expensive than ford.......... Don't take my word for it look for yourself.
I'd rather sink or hit a rock rather than to have it said I rot in dry dock

Why buy a small suv and make it work hard and get terrible gas mileage? I tried that, didn't like it. Went with a Chevy Suburban and have never looked back. I get close to the same mileage when not towing anything and I will get better mileage than a small suv when towing. I have seen this again and again. I bet between all of the suv's, price wise you will be in the ball park of all of them. When you need servicing, parts and labor seem to be less also. I had imports also and about died when a bill would be given to me when I had servicing done. You will be much happier with a full size period!
If you don't like it that big...go with the taho or expedition. You will also like the room inside. The liberty, I don't know but it look like you might be able to haul groceries home using the back and the seats to get them home. Don't skimp out.

I love my Liberty. I've had it almost 2 years now and have almost 45K miles on it. Other than oil changes every 3500-4000 miles and gas, I haven't had to put a penny into it. I'm getting between 20 and 22MPG now and during the winter (frequent 4 wheel drive use) I got between 19 and 20 MPG.

I just bought a brand new 2003 Dodge Durango with a 4.7L V8 for less than most used SUV's. There offering discounts of over $8000 right now!I pulled my 18' fiberglass boat with no problem, its a great truck and the price is right. I had the Jeep once, I would never go back, mine was lemon. Take a look at the Durango, I like mine a iot.

Why not just buy a truck and be done with it. If your wife needs a car to get groceries, buy her a honda.
