I have a Crestliner, 1750 Fishhawk and need opions on a Minnkota Autopilot bow mount for it. Is a 55lb. thrust enough for the current in the Detroit river for jigging. I know more is better but I really don't want to go to a 24 volt system for 10 additonal lbs. of thrust. Help me out! Thanks!

You get a lot more than just 10lbs more thrust. A 24v system is much more efficent and will wear down your batteries less and a 12 system of equal thrust.

So you would go with the 65lb./24 volt autopilot? Have you heard anything about Minnkota coming out with a larger than 65lb. autopilot in the near future? Thanks P.J.

No, I havent heard anything.
I have the motor you mention on my 1850 Sportfish, it works fine in the river, on your boat, it would pull stumps. LOL
Actually, when I was rigging my boat I was going to cheap out and get a 12v, but I am very glad I didnt.

Thanks again Perchjerker! I think I'll go with the 65lb.

I converted a 12-volt boat to a 24-volt boat for the bow trolling motor.
The post is correct ... you will get a LOT more from the 24 over the 12. I would run my two trolling batteries down in 5 or 6 hours with my 12 volt motor vertical jigging and bottom bouncing. Even in 8 hours of hard use I would never get lower than 1/3 remaining on them with my 24 volt system. The torque is higher and the system is much more efficient.
I talked to several pros before I converted and they told me that I would find exactly what I did find. If anything, they understated it. I have sold the boat to a good friend, but while I had it I was VERY glad I converted. I used it 1 year as a 12 volt and 4 years as a 24 volt.
