Am thinking of getting a bigger rig. Any thoughts on the Patriot lineup? Thanks.

I have a Patriot 2050dc and really like it. It's a great big water boat. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Hi, and thanks. I basically wanted to know about the overall construction of the boat. Do you feel it is a sound boat in rough water? How is the fit and finish on the inside? Things like the little things, edges of gelcoat/glass inside livewells, do the livewells get bonded to the hull and do they leak from where they meet the cap? What are the lids made of? Does a boat that big handle well on a trolling motor and how much does the wind push it around when on the trolling motor or while trolling? Is the splashwell/cap still cauklked where it meets the transom? And if so how does that caulk seam look? Like I said, mostly little things, but this is a big decision and I am far away from the nearest dealer.

Overall construction is very solid, some of the fit and finish details could be a little better. In rough water it is very sound, the hull is one of the best I’ve driven/rode in rough water, comparable to a boston whaler that a friend used to own. The layout and textured fiberglass interior (no carpet in mine) are very practical, almost industrial. The boat handles well with the 74 lb trolling motor that I have. The wind does push it quite a bit while trolling, it makes it difficult to troll into the wind. All the hatch lids are Bomar? Lids and they are some type of plastic or HDPE. As far as I know the livewell doesn’t leak where it meets the cap, there were a few rough spots that I sanded down. I don’t recall if the cap is caulked to the transom at the splashwell so the seam can’t be that noticeable.
Where are you located? I know that the dealer that I bought mine from in Fond du Lac still has a 2001 hull that he is very eager to move.

I live about 2 hours from Fondi, and I do get there every once in a while. I can deal with a little roughness on some of the Fit and finish, I am fast becoming a fan of the carpetless interiors too, but I think I would also go for a snap in/out carpet too. I have sat and watched the patriots roar by in a few tournies and am most likely gonna get a ride in one soon. I am not ready to buy this year but maybe next spring. Thanks for all the help/info.

What about storage in the 17 and 20 foot tiller models? Any help here?

I have been fishing out of a prototype model 2050 for the past 2 months, and had the chance to fish out out of a brand new 2050DC WT last week on Green Bay in 20 MPH winds. The new boat has been completely redesigned to the point that you can't really compare the old to the new. The gelcoat is impeccable, all "hidden" and exposed areas are very clean, the fit on everything is super tight, and the lids are now all aluminum, in previous years they used Bomar lids. I believe you can get this boat any way you want, with or without carpet, not sure about the snap-in stuff though.
The ride rivaled the best I have ever experienced, overall I could find very few negatives. We had a the livewell running and had quite a few fish in there and they did well, no apparent leaks of any kind. We trolled in that stiff wind all day and it seemed to track great. Never used the trolling motor, but I have used it on my prototype model and it performs just like every other glass boat I have owned.
I believe that this boat is really going to turn some heads in the years to come. They have done ONE HECK of a fantastic job with it so far. I do not know much about the 17 footer, except that it looks like a mini version of the 20 footer. Haven't been in the tiller either. If you have any other questions I'll do my best to answer.

I have heard Patriot went to aluminum lids vs the old Bomier(sp) Is this a fact?

Yes, the lids are now fully gasketed aluminum with flush mounted locks and latches, and the interior either snap in, permenant, or velcro carpeted. The livewell is now glassed to the liner, and the liner is now one piece, no top cap necessary as it is part of the liner. Fit ansd finish is very good, 'tight' is a good term. I run a 2050 with a 250 Mercury Optimax, and love the rig. it controls very well with a bow mount (I muskie fish most of the time) and runs really well in the big stuff. 4 seats in the ####pit and lots of room, a huge front deck, and alot more. FloRite Livewell systems with a pad mounted fresh water pick up, auto bilge, new electrical front and rear, and lots more. We have been busy!
Thw 2050 Tiller models will be here in about 2 weeks.
What are we looking at for a price range on the WT.

Just to give everybody a starting taster. The 2050 Walkthru with a 150 Mercury XR-6 installed and water ready will be about 30,000.00!! That will be about 10K less than the competition. And it runs very well with the 150, I have driven it.
If You would like to start pricing one out with the motor of your choice, feel free to contact me, Denny Fox at Fort Fremont Marine, 920-446-3220.

How bout the 2050 with a 125? Or a 1710 with the 90 Mercs on both? Ballpark estimate? The more I hear about these boats the more impressed I become!!!
i prefished with a patriot pro for 2 days at the port clinton event. the wind was out of the ne @15-20 mph both days. that boat handled the 2-4 ft waves @20-25 mph with no problem. this is by far the best rough water boat i've ever been in. right now i'm trying to figure how to justify to the wife why i need to get my 3rd new boat in 4 years.

However I need to be understood as well. I am in no way going to buy before next season at the very least, so I will be taking up your time, with no immediate gratification, if at all as I live a couple hundred miles away. I may e mail, thanks for your time already.

I was talking to my buddy yesterday and he was talking about a boat dealer yesterday, not a Patriot dealer mind you, and the dealer said they haven't sold many boats and haven't been keeping their dealers. This dealer said the only boats out there are ones that are given to people to run. He said they would be going away soon and that I should look to a recognized boat line. Has anyone heard this? I know it is really a he said she said kind of thing, but I am curious as I don't know if I should consider a boat that may not be made in the near future, warranty claims and such. I have heard a lot of good things about Patriots and have seen a few at shows, they appear to be well built and getting better with fit and trim and layout and such. Any one care to answer, i would especially like to hear from Patriot dealers and Pro staff and the like.
I drove a Patriot (MPL) back in 88 on the St.Lawrence river. It was a slippery fast hull running a big Merc and I was impressed. I am a Princecraft devotee but if you're looking for a rig that handles big water well then you should take a good look. It's obvious to me that they have come a long way since their early introduction.
It seems to me that whoever you were speaking with exibited some obvious bias and I don't think you have to worry about the financial strength of the company.
