View Full Version : Trolling help
My wife and I have been fishing for Walleye in Erie the last few years. We bought an Erie boat last year. Now that we can go out farther, we find that most people are catching Wally by trolling. This is something we know nothing about.
My question, what do you suggest we purchase that will be easy for us to learn (understand) in catching Wally.
Thanks
Ed

Buy the Precision Trolling book its avalible in Cabelas or you can orderone direct from Walleye Central. It will tell you everything you want to know. It has dozens of lures and the depths they run its the best thing to come out for the troller fisherman.
Thanks....will look into it.

Buying Precision Trolling is the best $25 you can spend. "Trolling Top to Bottom" also by Mark Romanack is a good book.
I would also recommend you consider doing a charter with a Captain that specializes in trolling. Explain to the Capt in advance that your primary interest in the trip is to LEARN. If the Captain has a First Mate tell the mate at the begining of the day what your objective is. Email me if you would like a recommendation on Capt's to call.
Also this board is an excellent source of information. The more specific question/post you make- the better info you will receive.
Also check out www.boatohio.com/cgi-bin/forums/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID14&conf=DCConfID3 If this link doesn't work go to boatohio.com and the forums section.
I'd also recommend stopping in to see Denny Braun (posts on here as DEN) at the Sportsman's Outpost in Vermillion, OH if you can. Call him at the shop on 888 855-9032. He will get you started with the right stuff the first time.
Dipsey Divers are probably a good thing to start with and learn first.
Where do you usually fish out of?
Good Luck,

Go to the local bait shops and talk to the guys. Buy a few cranks so they will take you seroiusly. or... join a local fishing club. There are lots of guys who will be more than willing to assist you in every way, to get you started.

Go here and ask ETT.. one of the best known and well respected trollers on the big pond:

That location should provide the answers you need.
Thanks to all whom replied. I will check out your advise.
