Tiller w/ tach

Is is possible to install a tach on a 40 4-stroke Merc Tiller motor?
Is there a tach just made for tiller motors since it will not be going in a console. Looking for one that can stand on its own and be mounted on the side somewhere. Can this be done by the average Joe?

Not sure if it can be done by the avg. "Joe" or not, but my dealer installed one on my 60HP Merc. Works just great. It is installed on the side of the rod holder, in plain site for me. Not sure what boat you are looking at, but this seems to work for me.
Not sure what brand of tach but it cost around $75 installed.
