My 9 year old daughter and I went up on Sunday, July 1st to get the cabin ready for a week of R&R. Ya know, clean the bugs, vacuum, turn on water, get the water heater started, mow, etc before momma came up on Wednesday AM. She was a real trooper and did lots of work for a 9 year old. So on Tuesday afternoon we decided it was time for a break and went out to do a little fishing. She said she was tired of the river and wanted to try the "big part". I smiled and headed the boat out into the lake. The wind was perfect and the temps were in the 80's. I did some jigging around the weed beds close to the river and pulled some small ones that thrilled my girl. I decided to try some of the midlake humps. As we were drifting off the back of one, I felt the tap and let the line loose. 1,2,3 set! What started like the other 14"-18" began to tug and pull. I realized this was big and handed it to my daughter to reel it in. After 2 runs, she got nervous and handed it back to me. We boated a 27 1/2" eye that is the biggest Ottertail fish for me to date. Ahhhhh, it was cool.

She will talk about this trip for a long time. :-)

Hope you all had a safe and prosperous 4th.

Sounds like you and your daughter were rewarded for your efforts. Glad to hear you and your daughter had a good time Eric! :-)
Have you tried the panfish up on Dead at all this year?
Just curious, cause my week is at the cabin starts this Friday, I'm hoping to take the pontoon over to either Head, Dead, or Maybe Mcdonald?

Great story! As much as many people think it is getting into the dog days of summer soon, isn't it great to hit a big fish like that!? That is a nice fish. It does not matter where you catch one that size, it is always a great catch. Your daughter will want to fish with you more and more with catches like that!

EE, both Dead and Head were producing good numbers of pan fish. Thought most were pulling in sunnies a few crappies were found in the deeper pools. The had Richville days on Saturday and there were several guys there that had just pulled off the water with a cooler full of nice sunnies.

I did not get over there myself. With the boat on the river and access to Ottertail, Walker and McGowen, I stay on those.
