Does anyone know what the name of the bug is that was on Mille Lacs yesterday (Sunday July 7)? They looked similar to a mosquito but did not bite. They were mainly in the flats area. There were millions of these on the lake. Despite these bugs we still caught some nice fish.

Sounds like you experienced a Lake Fly hatch. Your right, they do look like a mosquito, but they are a little bigger and do not bite. They just like to rest on everything.

Good job catching fish during the hatch. It's a known fact that the bite can get awfully tough during one. We get some really really really big hatches on Winnebago.... it can test the nerves sometimes...;-)

Those were dandys weren't they? They were bad on Thursday too.
Throw some surgical masks in your boat. You'll be glad you did.

I don't know what they're called, John, but I had had about enough of them by 11 am!! I had to vaccum the boat out when I got home after towing it at 70 mph for 100 miles!! Man those suckers were bad! Also, the north end of the lake was just littered with may fly carcasses

Didn't do to well Sunday, but we took alot of fish Saturday on deep cranks out on the prairie in 35'
