I want to ask the boards opinion. My MinnKota trolling motor caught on fire while up in Canada. Main control board fried and burnt up pretty good. So, I have to decide to invest $200 to repair a three year old motor, or buy a new one.

I have loved Minnkota, but they allways seem to fail after about three years. I have looked at pinpoint, but I think I would miss the autopilot feature too much. I hate lowering the motor in rough water, its a pain in the a##.

So, I am asking the board, what is your favorite Bow mount trolling motor? Pro's/cons? I am leaning towards a new genisis, but I dont know anyone who owns one.

I probably dont do as much fishing as some but i have always had good luck with motor guides. I have had 3 of them on different boats, hope this helps, good fishing

I put a brand new MinnKota on my new boat this spring with autopilot and absolutely love it. I never had a motor with the autopilot before and now that I have it, I won't go back. Personally, I'd buy a new one and not fix the other. I think you'll be happy with the new MinnKota.

I spent $200 on parts for my MinnKota three years ago and have not regretted it a bit. Basically the motor was new when I finished w/ it. A new one would have been twice that. You mentioned $200 for the repair, if that was total including labor, you might want to consider doing it yourself. There is nothing on a MinnKota that someone w/ basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of a wiring schematic could not do themselves. If you decide not to pursue the repair repost and I might be interested in buying the nonfunctioning motor from you.

Thanks, I think Im going to buy the board. The Board itself is almsot $200 and Im not sure if the pedal caused it or not. Still ahve to check for shorts. Labor is going to be done myself.
