Last year I picked up new boat, make and model is not important. But I went with the dealerships offered Yamaha power for this package.Any way I was getting 50mph gps after break in was complete.Heres where it gets weird,my cousin hit the prop while loading the boat after a tourney and damaged it.Poop happens Im over it.I took boat in and had it checked by the dealership all good. There prop guy said prop was fixable still all is well.Got prop back boat still did 50 gps all is great.
Then last fall before ice up I took dealership shop manager who also happens to be a long time friend fishing. He said he thought he could get a couple more M.P.H.out of the boat if he raised the outboard a couple of holes.I of coarse said that would be great, and since winter was coming and the boat needed some minor interior repairs anyway that he could do that.
I picked boat up this spring and just checked it out, lots of things were not reconnected after interior work was done, minor headache now, spent a day traceing wires and reconecting.Went to fish a tourney this spring, and running normal weight during prefish I noticed I had lost 10mph now Im not happy. So now I check prop.It looks like same prop but it is a 25 pitch and I thought I had a 23 but I never really did look at it so I cant be sure.Anyway I called dealership friend and asked him what the problem was.He just said bring it in and he would look at it.0k again nothing wrong with moter.Contacted boat manufacter and they said that setup should have come with a 23 pitch prop. Also said I should see 56 mph top end, this will not happen do to the extra weight of the kicker and other things.
So heres the problem friend gave me a 23 prop and said that it was 350.00 his cost and that if it cured the problem thats all he would charge me.Well it got me back to the 50 mph mark.So do I give the dealership the money for the prop or do I just tell them to pound sand and take the chance of loseing a friend.
To add more fuel to this I was asked to work at the local boat shows and sport shows to help this dealership sell boats this spring, and never asked for or receaved a penny for it.I do not want to mention boat dealership name do to long time friendship.

So, you had a 25 pitch prop. See if they will exchange it even money.

Are you getting anykind of a deal from the dealership for working the shows. If so that is your pay. Lost of dealers will provide you with discounts or free rigging etc.... in exchange for working the boat shows. The more boats you sell the more they will help you out. No sales the why should they help you.

Mooneyes,

If he is truly a good friend you should be able to tell him exactly what is on your mind without it causing problems.

The bigger question is "Why should YOU help THEM?" How far does friendship go. Is the guy in business, or is he a broker for friends' volunteerism? Don't let yourself get used in a one-way operation. That's not friendship.
