My 225 EFI sounds like a Harley, Is that right?

Just bought a new boat with a 2000 merc 225 efi on it. Don't know if there is a problem or not. Performance seems to be just fine but the thing sound like it needs a muffler. It runs pretty loud kind of like a Harley but of course not that loud. What do you guys think? Get it looked at?

Without hearing the motor in person, it's hard to judge what you mean by "it sounds like a Harley" but all the 225 EFI Mercs I've heard have a pretty throaty growl, especially when they are throttling up. Seems to be a strong, reliable (some say bulletproof) motor.

Seriously, if everything is running fine, it should be ok. Thats a lot of displacement there. You might want to call the service dept at your dealers and run the question by them.

This may be the begining of a new trend. Instead of biker chicks, walleye chicks???

Might have to add chrome muffler extensions and saddle bags to really do the trick!!!

Sounds like you're running the motor in the driveway. Drop her in the lake and she should run quieter.
