May be relocating to Grand Rapids, MI. What are my walleye fishing options? Does lake MI support a walleye population in that area? Or am I best of going east to Saginaw or Erie?
Any info will be welcome.
Thanks

Welcome to West Michigan! Your options for walleye fishing are wide open. The road trips to the East side are very enticing but you don't have to go very far on this side of the State to find decent fishing. The Grand River runs right through Grand Rapids. There are several launch sites available to you. There are also several lakes you should consider. White Lake, Muskegon Lake, and my home lake of Lake Macatawa are within an hours drive. I would recommend the first two as much better numbers lakes. Lake Macatawa is a very tough lake to catch walleye in because it is most always muddy or full of algae blooms. In the fall, all three lakes see the return of the walleye from Lake Mi. and the fishing can be superb. These are just a few of the places to consider. There is a local walleye club you might want to join. It is called the West Mi. Walleye Club and they can be a much better source of information.
Hi neighbor(SUPERTROLLER),
I didn't know you were a west mich fisherman. I reside in Alaska, Mi.
All good choices Nodak, here are a few more:
Morrison lake in Ionia county, Croton Pond(resevoir), Lincoln Lake in Kent county, Gun Lake in Barry Co. All about an hrs drive from GR.
Here's an excellent page by the DNR that shows stocking programs and their history. It is searchable by county, species, dates, etc.

Lots of lakes, lots of launches and lots of pleasure boats. I'll time my fishing so I miss the pleasure craft, or hit the river if I'm fishing during peak lake activity.

Welcome to Michigan, being in Grand Rapids, you are smack dab right in the middle of the candy store! I might suggest a deck of cards, Deal out 7 column solitaire, each columns a different body of water, drop all the lakes with a black card. Deal out red lakes till last remaining lake! Hook up. Dice to roll out lake, and maybe a dart board map of lower Michigan and a blindfold. As for the Upper pennisula ohh yehhh.
Thats another board game, then pick between upper or lower.
River fish 365 days a year, big lake fish that have never been angled.Inland stocking of walleye in Michigan is unsurpassed by anybody in the USA, what a crisis!
