I'm going to keep this fairly generic as I don't want to bash any dealership.
I'm in the process of ordering a new Ranger. Anyway, my sitution is that I've got one Ranger dealership 3 miles from my house, problem is they don't have the best reputation and I believe their service department is lacking. Dealership number 2 is 90 miles away, don't know a lot about them but thus far they have been very good to work with (and the same boat at this dealership is $1000 cheaper). Should I be reluctant to buy a boat from someone that is 90 miles away? Any thoughts?
90 miles does not seem that far away to me. Will you travel farther to go fishing? If so then why not travel that far to buy your fishing boat?
Use the $1,000 bucks for gear and gas money.

Mike - Service is KEY!! I bought my Crestliner from, and I will say it, Crystal Pierz. I will not mention which location. Anyway, the location I bought it from - God Awful! All they cared about was selling me the boat, signing the papers and getting the heck out of there. So, I do not hold a grudge against Pierz, just that location.
I deal with a different location and they care. It is just the people that make a difference, not the store name. I am in the process of buying a new boat and went to a 3rd Pierz location to check out a boat. They acted the same as the first location I bought my boat at. Not buying it from them becuase I know they will not service it.....So.....
In my continued search for a new boat, I narrowed down the field to about 5 or 6 boats. I have eliminated 3 boat manufacturers and or dealers becuase of the crappy response and service I have rec'd....Service means alot!
If I were you, save $1000, that will also cut about $20 bucks on a monthly payment. If your happy with their service thus far and the relationship to date - go with them!

I would be willing to travel more than 90 miles. Service is everything.....after the sale. Leave me you e-mail and I will see if I can help you out. I just ordered a new boat and will be more than willing to tell you where I just got the best service and price. Thanks

I agree also, good service is invaluable. I dont know how many times I have taken my boat in a few weeks or even a week before going to Canada or a trip far away and needed something done that I just noticed. They have taken care of me every time. Yes, I drive three hours round trip, but much better than fishing or noth fishing with a broken part of the boat.

I'll think about it, thanks for your assistance.
Is there much markup on a 25,000 ranger? I'm suprised at the price differences.

Price differences pertain to Overhead and Greed. Here is another tip, clean up when you shop big ticket items, look neat but wear old clothes and leave your Rolex at home.

Have you checked out the Ranger dealership in Rockford, Illinois? If you aren't far from DeKalb you probablty aren't that far from Rockford. I didn't buy my Ranger from them as thay hadn't yet opened but they've been very helpful anyway. Had them install my depthfinders and they did an excellent job. Seem to be pretty good people.
I wouldn't let 90 miles keep me from saving $1,000. Never needed the dealer on a warranty issue for the boat. The motor is usually the problem if there is one.
