I know this is a fishing post but a lot of us hunt/own weapons too. Just a little info from down under.

Ed Chenel, a police officer in Australia asked that this be put on the Moon
list. Ed is a good friend.
Hi Yanks,

I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced
by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our
own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million
dollars.

The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up
3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide,
armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!) In the state of Victoria
alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the
law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals
still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past
12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of
the elderly. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns."

You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear your
governor or members of the state Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest
citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the
law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's to late!

I guess we could have seen that coming! I have been waiting for these stats to come out for a year. Come on all you anti gun, lets make more laws lunatics! How do you explain the statistics listed here? Come on Liberal wacko morons, the ball is in your court. As to the millions and millions of gun owners who do not belong to any organization to protect your rights, get off your backsides and rally together. Make your voices heard by your legislators, and elected officials. Before it is too late. Join the NRA, or any group that will fight for your rights to hunt and own guns. Or better yet, you people using AOL, you are in part, funding the anti gun movement. AOL is so anti gun and Pro people like Rosie O'donnel, you are paying them each month to spew their rhetoric. Use an online service that is 2nd Amwndment friendly, like Outdoors Unlimited. Join the WLFA, they fight for our rights as hunters AND anglers AND trappers, at the Legislative level. All told I pay 30 or 35 dollars a year for the NRA, 25 dollars for WLFA and will be paying 19 dollars a month for internet services that all help to allow me to hunt and fish in LEGAL manners. You paid upwards of 500 bucks for your guns, some less many paid more. What the heck is 50 or 30 bucks a year to be sure the Liberal Gestapo dont show up at our doors and take our guns.It cant happen? Ask ANYONE in Australia if it can happen. Or England, or Canada. Yes Canada, you are next, your Govt has already started towards TOTAL gun confiscation. And personally, everyone who lost a family member or loved one to Gun Violence in Australia, should be able to put the LAWMAKERS on trial for accesory to MURDER!

What's the deal with AOL? I haven't seen anything anti-gun. Also, where can I find info. on "Outdoors Unlimited" as an ISP?

You know, for years, we've heard of the slippery slope in this gun regulation stuff. Every few months, there's a new gimick. It's no secret what HCI and a lot of politicians want to do. Yet, we can look not too far, and see, it doesn't work. This report, plus the recent rise in crime in England all point to one thing...no matter what law you pass, the bad guys are still going to to something bad.

We are always pointed by the anti gun folks to Canada, England etc. and how well their government takes care of them. Last week, I watched a debate on C Span 2 (it was a boring hot day) and they showed Brittish leaders in a round table discussion with a "town hall" like audience. Twice, the subject of crime came up....how it had risen. Also mentioned was the fact that their medical system is in shambles. Those pushing more government intervention in your lives here in the US certainly won't be running commercials showing those points of discussion. Funny how none of them ever want to talk about strict enforcement of existing laws.......or in the case of medical costs rising tort reform. Many want to cry about big business and how evil it is. Politicians and lawyers rule.

A friend of mine gave me these numbers the other day.
Number of physicians in the US 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians each year 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician 0.171 (US Dept of Health)

Number of gun owners in the US 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year 1500
Accidental gun deaths per owner 0.0000180
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Not everyone owns a gun, but everyone has seen at least one doctor.

Think about it!

Type the company name as a url. There is infothere about all that I said and then some. I dont want to be accused of advertising for them, and I do not work for them, just thought it was an idea who's time had come. As for AOL, it is on the flyer I got in the mail with the Latest WLFA newsletter, and it says right there that some of the largest internet service providers support gun control. AOL recently suspended a leagal gun dealers account with tem and likened him to a pornographer. AOL is in bed with Time Warner, the biggest media friend ofthe anti, and they love Rosie O to death.

What, you cant read? Not intended to slam you my friend, but I thought I said it simple and to the point. I dont want gun play in the streets anymore than the next guy. But unlike the Liberal Zealots, I can plainly see that taking guns away from the law abiding only serves to enpower the criminals and render the police powerless. Read the figures.
