I'm leaving on the 21st for a week and just wondering about any up to date info thats not already posted by Judds. Are the mayflies dying down yet?
Anything would be great, this darn clock is ticking toooo slow, I think its going backwards!!
Thanks

Not really walleye related, but my neighbor was muskie fishing and caught a couple 40+ inchers, and had one next to the boat that broke his rod and straightened a #3 cross lock snap. He estimated it at about 56-57 inches. He got a 52 last year, so he is probably pretty close.

He got lots of northerns a s well, but no pig walleyes this time. He usually catches one or two big ones by mistake, I guess.

Good luck up there! :)

The mayflies are dying out pretty much but there are some other hatchs going on. The best bites are out deep, and it's just a matter of hitting the right hump at the right time. Lots of slot fish, but enough eaters to keep you happy. If you get a strong wind the shallow bite takes off. Hope this helps.
Take care, T

I fished Winnie for the first time this last week. We hit them just outside the reefs in the mud. We had the best luck on boards with metallic and white cranks, and covered the entire water column. We also had some (bigger fish) on bottom bounced crawlers with spinner (white blade), again just outside of, not on, the reefs. Good luck.

I was up there the weekend of the 7th and the bug hatch was just starting to die down so by this weekend it should be back to better fishing. I go back the 22nd or 23rd myself so may see you out on the lake.
