Can anybody tell me the correct direction the blades on the impeller are supposed to be when replacing an impeller? Are the blades supposed to bend backwards when installing the the impeller into the water pump housing?

Yes, bend them backwards, the stifness of the rubber will keep the right tension on the fins. You don't want to be pushing the fins upstream.

I think it's just easier to say "Put it back in the same as they were before you removed them"!! If my memory is correct that would mean you would turn the shaft counter clockwise as you are inserting the impeller into the water pump.

The way to properly do it is to set the vanes in the direction of engine rotation.

For example, have someone touch the ign key to turn the motor over while someone else observes the direction of engine rotation. Then, when you are installing the pump, have someone rotate the motor in the same direction as the impeller is fitted into the housing.

A manual is a real nice thing to have. It will explain it better than I can.

Invest in one.
