View Full Version : fuel starving
Have a 200 efi on a Pro-V. Two outings ago, jumped a wake and about a half mile up the lake the main motor came to a halt form full speed. Started up fine, but then stalled at idle again. Felt the fuel bulb and it was empty,...would collapse and stay collapsed for a long period. Had to run home with the kicker, which also stalled out, only far less frequently than the main. Kept trying the m,ain and it would stall out at anything more than a troll. Both motors feed off the same main fuel line, through a two way tap valve. Had the valve and fuel pickup in the tank checked,...both fine. Went out yesterday and the main ran six miles before it stalled again. It got me back at planing speed with only one more stall. Now only 1/3 tank of fuel in the boat and I'm wondering if you guys think these symptoms sound consistent with a fuel vent blockage? I checked the vent caps and they were clear but do you think a blockage way down inside the line is a possibility? Sorry for the long-windedness, thanks

did you try anything like leaving the fuel fill cap partially open? mine screws on so i am thinking just a couple of threads would let air in and see it that does it. or put a vacuum pump on the tank and see if a vacuum forms. sounds like though.

By pass the tap valve to the main and see if the problem goes away.

Did try hooking the main fuel line to an auxilliary fuel can and both motors ran fine. So it makes me think that the problem is the fuel pickup (been checked and is clear) or the vent is clogged and causing a vacuum in the tank and therefore starves the motors for fuel. Does this sound plausible? Where/how would you check this? I'm suspicious because the problem was getting less frequent as the tank got more empty. Thanks

I had this happen to my 1900 ProV. I wound up taking all the screws out of the floor board and checking the pickups while I was on the water. As I was screwing the floor back down, I noticed that the lever for the main and auxillary tank had been moved enough to shut off the gas completely. Check the switch lever position. Mine is on the riser to the rear casting deck. I'll bet the lever is in the wrong position or the valve is defective.
