View Full Version : snap weights
I purchased a set of snap weights, but don't really know too much about them. Where should they be attached in comparison to the lure? Is this information in the percision trolling guide?
Thanks Ryan

As a rule of thumb the 50/50 method works very well, let out 50 feet of line then attach snap weight and let out another 50 feet of line. Also you can try different lengths, but you will also want to purchase the Precision Trolling guide and keep in in a plastic holder to keep it from getting wet, you can purchase it on the home page of WALLEYE CENTRAL! Good fishing!

Correct me if I'm wrong(please)but doesn't the 50/50 method mean if you let out 150' lets say then you put the snapweight at 75' if you only put out 80' the weight goes at 40'. At a 100' as stated the weight would be at 50'. This is how I interpeted it.

yes snap weights are in the book. the distance from the lure to the weight can be as short as 6' to as long as 100'. There is no one right way to do it. Most guys put them 35 - 50' ahead of the lure, but there are times when closer is better, and times when longer is better. I'll say this, the closer to lure you go the more verticle swim you get in the lure (quicker responce to speed change) the further away the slower. Hope this helps. good luck.
