Hey Chuck. I don't have the 2000, but have the 160. In order to turn on the light on mine, you have to open up the menu and select the light on choice. If it is dark without a flashlight, it is impossible to turn on, because you can't see. I did this one morning holding on to a lighter. Pain in the butt. I like the unit, but thought this was a negative about the unit. I don't know if the 2000 is any different. As far as the lighting itself was concerned, it seems ok to me. You might have to adjust the contrast, but it seems fine. Hope this helps.

I have the LPG 2000 and I often use it for night fishing. You do have to go through the menu to turn the light on. The light settings goes 0-8. Whenever I turn my unit on the light setting is at 4 so you can always see the display. Once the light is on the unit works fine for night fishing.

Is there a web site for zercom units, I would like to take a look at the lpg 2000. How much should this unit cost? Thanks to all who answer. JJ
